Here’s What to Expect

Starting with a new NDIS client? Here’s a simple guide for NDIS providers

Taking on a new NDIS client is exciting, but those first few weeks are also about getting organised, understanding what matters to them and setting up a good working relationship from the start.

Here’s a simple look at what your first 30 days might involve.

The First 30 Days Supporting a New NDIS Client: Here’s What to Expect

Before you get started with your new NDIS client

Start by making sure everyone is clear about the support you’ll be providing.

This is a good time to confirm the practical details, including:

Getting these basics sorted early can help avoid any confusion later.

Week 1: Get to know your client

Your first few supports are about more than completing tasks. Take the time to understand your client’s preferences, routines, goals and how they like to be supported. Every person is different, so ask questions, listen and don’t assume. It’s also a good opportunity to check that the support you’re providing matches what has been agreed. If you use a simple tool like Earni app, you can record your clients goals, any notes, and then link to an invoice and manage all this in one place.

Week 2: Get into a good record-keeping routine

Don’t wait until weeks later to try to remember what happened during a support.

Start good habits early by keeping clear records of the supports you deliver, such as dates, times and relevant notes about the support provided. Keeping your records up to date can also make invoicing much easier. We recommend our easy to use app Earni to do this in fast.

Week 3: Check how things are going

By now, you and your client are starting to settle into a routine. Check in with them. Is the support working well? Is there anything they’d like done differently? Have their needs or circumstances changed?

Small conversations early can prevent bigger misunderstandings later.

Week 4: Review and get organised

At the end of your first month, take a quick look back. Are your records up to date? Have invoices been submitted correctly? Are the agreed supports still working for your client? Is there anything you need to follow up?

You don’t need to make it complicated. A simple review can help you start month two feeling organised and confident.

A good start makes a difference

The first 30 days are really about building trust, communicating clearly and creating good habits. Take the time to understand your client, keep your records organised and stay on top of the little things. It can make the ongoing working relationship easier for everyone.
